The Teachers Academy

THE SIXTH ANNUAL SUMMER INSTITUTE ALUMNI SYMPOSIUM: THE JOURNEY

Conducted by Summer Institute Alumni

Cowan Center Alumni, teachers, and principals are invited to join Summer Institute Alumni as they present brief papers and lead discussions in a university-style conference focused on the image of the "Journey" or the "Quest" in Summer Institute texts. Food and a film will complete the Institute experience.

The "Journey" and the "Quest" are archetypal images used to represent the very movement of life and learning throughout history in poetry from all cultures. Some works depict a literal journey or quest--the Odyssey, the Mwindo Epic, the Epic of Gilgamesh, Beowulf--but some show characters on a spiritual or intellectual journey--Oedipus, Achilles, Lear, Hamlet, Seth--to name just a few.

Alumni will present papers in which they explore a literal or figurative "Journey" or "Quest" and good conversation will be sure to follow.
