CITY DESIGN AND THE FUTURE OF DALLAS

Brent Brown AIA & LEED AP, and the bcWORKSHOP

Brent Brown

The Institute's Center for the City under the Directorship of Dr. Gail Thomas has always emphasized urban design as a cornerstone concept of the "livable city." With the creation in 2009 of the CityDesign Studio within City Hall, the prospect that Dallas' future will include a consciously pursued design strategy is real. But how will our city actually be shaped in terms of form and function? In what ways does design really matter? Such questions will be explored by CityDesign Studio and bcWORKSHOP Director Brent Brown, who will bring his own architectural expertise as well as the resources of these two organizations to bear in assessing current city design issues and taking a provocative look into Dallas' future.
